He Collects Our Tears

You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? ~ Psalm 56:8 NKJV
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. ~ Psalm 34:18 NIV
Has your heart been broken?  Has your spirit been crushed?  The Lord is near.  He knows your pain.  Our tears are precious to God.  He has placed our tears in a bottle.  They are recorded in His book.
From our place of brokenness, if we humble ourselves and submit to God's redeeming work in us, we are transformed to become closer to the image of Christ.
Brokenness surrendered to God yields fruit.  Hard soil must be broken up so the seed may be planted.  The hard soil of our hearts must also be broken, so that God's redeeming love can come in.  God gives grace to the humble. (Proverbs 3:34).   The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and  contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. (Psalm 51:17)
Jesus knows your pain.  Jesus wept. (John 11:35)  He was called a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.  (Isaiah 53:3).  You can cast your cares upon him, for he cares for you. (I Peter 5:7)
The bible is full of hope for the brokenhearted.  God promises that he will give those who grieve a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  (Isaiah 61:3).   Psalm 30:11 says, "You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy."
We are also given the incredible promise of Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."  Yes, that's right.  All things.
Dear friend, if you are going through a season of grief, God can and will work out whatever circumstances you face for good.  Claim his promises to you today.
Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. ~ Psalm 30:5 NKJV

  10. Dear Patti - thank you so much for taking so much time with this post! You've sent me all the messages that I needed to hear today and I will fill my head with these thoughts! I'm reminded of the verse in the Bible that tells us to be kind to strangers as you never know when you've encountered an angel - today I feel as if you were that angel sent to me with a very specific message! Thank you!

  11. Yes...just knowing this brings me so much peace.

  12. I'm still stuck on he numbers my!

  13. beautiful. I was just saying some of those verses back to God this morning. I am ever so grateful He does not back out of any of His promises.
I've often thought of that truth..that He keeps our tears in a is such a precious thought...and it's true!:)

  14. to have a thank you list of Gods promises – that's a little bit breathtaking. To begin with Scripture and picture the way you have today – and to wrap it up with all the thank you's – I just hearted it. Thank you for this. It was a gift. And as always God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours Patti.

  26. Joy...especially after sorrow...creates a place of acceptance. What beautiful pictures to illustrate your point.

  27. Joy comes in the morning ... excellent comment. There are many things causing hurt and disillusionment today. We need the reminder that with God there is always hope for a fresh inbreaking of his presence. Good post.

  28. Patti, you don't know it, but I am drawn to your blog because as I read your words, I know they are the words coming from a heart that has been shaped and molded by years of obedience to the Father. As you share from that deep well watered place inside your heart, I can drink deeply and find satisfaction.

    So beautiful.

    So timely.

Thank you for sharing your heart so beautifully.

  29. Thank you for the reminder and an encouraging post....brokenness surrendered to God yields true.

  30. I'm so thank-ful for all the time the Lord has been there to collect my tears, and knowing he will always be there for me.

  31. Hi Patti,

Thank you for sharing this thoughtful reminder that God does indeed know the grief and pain we experience; He is well acquainted with our lives.

As a man, I have resisted shedding tears because I viewed it as a sign of weakness. Over the past eighteen months, my pride has deserted me and in its place is humility that cries out for the grace of our Lord. I no longer fear crying, or professing my weakness; I have experienced God's grace and strength.

There have been nights when I felt alone and willing to give up, but the Lord is faithful, giving me rest and hope. I take joy and comfort in knowing He lives and is transforming me into the man He calls me to be.

    Blessings and peace.
